Hi, my name is Michael Hodge. I am a Senior Data Engineer at the Ministry of Justice. Until very recently, I was a Senior Data Scientist at the Data Science Campus, Office for National Statistics. After starting a degree in Architecture I switched to Earth Sciences, where I stumbled my way into gaining a doctorates degree. My research involved looking at surface formations from earthquakes in Malawi.
In my previous job I worked at the Office for National Statistics' Data Science Campus to create data science solutions to problems, as well as provide mentoring, to many statistical authorities around the world. I use a wide range of data science skills including natural language processing, time-series analysis, machine learning techniques, data visualisation. I work with numerous Government departments, local authorities, private companies and research institutes. For a brief period I was Head of Data and Automation over at the Office for Statistical Regulation on a maternity cover post. Before my PhD I worked at Natural Resources Wales, and before that, Welsh Water Dwr Cymru. Outside of work I am an enthusiastic father of two, average footballer and terrible golfer.
